Funeral services for 92-year old Pete Plenty Wounds Sr are  Sat, Oct 29, 2022 at 10:00 at the C Bear Gymnasium in Batesland, SD, with Senior Catechist Ben Conquering Bear officiating, traditional Lakota services by Alphonso American Horse and Rick Two Dogs, and Military Services by Russell Merdanian

Burial is at St Andrew’s Episcopal Cemetery in Wakpamni Lake, SD

A one-night wake service starts Friday, Oct 28, at 3:00 at the C. Bear Gymnasium in Batesland, SD. 

Pete was a veteran of the U-S Army’s 82nd Airborne 

Pete Raymond Plenty Wounds Sr “Akicita Mani” was born on June 3, 1930 at Porcupine Butte near Porcupine, SD to George Plenty Wounds and Roslyn (Crooked Eyes) Plenty Wounds.  Pete Sr made his journey to the Spirit World on October 20, 2022 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Pete is survived by his children, Pete Plenty Wounds Jr, Troy Plenty Wounds, Jodie Plenty Wounds, Harlo Plenty Wounds, and Corby Plenty Wounds; daughters Jennifer Plenty Wounds and Cindy Plenty Wounds; hunka sons Wesley New Holy Sr, Ace NO Braid, David Shangreaux, Manual Swan Jr, Mark Brown Bull, Maurice “Chip” LaDeaux, and Clinton Bird Hat; hunka daughters Lema Richards, Frieda Richards, Enalia Ghost Bear, Misty Mousseaux, Dusty Mousseaux, Carmen Whiting, Shotah DuBray, Ora DuBray, Laura “Buffy” Fourd, Dawn Weber, Kristy Weber, Judy Miles, Corinne Sierra,  Margaret Sierra, Karen Red Elk, and Sharon Martinez; grandchildren, Cinda, Verlene, Lil Jodie, Lyle, Daryl, Kyle, Brianna, Andrew, Jordan, Kylee, Michaela, Annika, AJ, Stephen, LaFawn, Mark, Mariah, Markus, Leilia, Corby Jr, Carys, Dagny, Acailawen, Gates, Christina, and Dustin Plenty Wounds, and Shasta Reynolds; great-grandchildren Darius Witt, Xanthus and Olowan Red Cloud, Drayden and Jacin Plenty Wounds, Jacere Red Cloud, Endoniss, Demaree, and Miguel Moreno, Kraygen, Rakeem, and Ryanna Plenty Wounds, Samuel Dean Red Cloud, Timothy and Jesslyn Pascale, Xander Plenty Wounds, and Blakely Jay Hansen.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents George and Roslyn Plenty Wounds; wife Dorothy (Fireplace) Plenty Wounds; a twin brother at birth; sisters Sophie and Bertha Plenty Wounds; sons Jodie Gale Plenty Wounds, George Plenty Wounds, Rekal Plenty Wounds, Maurice “Chip” LaDeaux, and Clinton Bird Hat; grandsons Rekal “Rocky” Plenty Wounds, Tevin Plenty Wounds, and Michael Plenty Wounds.

Pallbearers will be Ace No Braid, Mark Plenty Wounds, Kyle Plenty Wounds, AJ No Braid, Lil Jodie Plenty Wounds, Wesley New Holy Sr, Corby Plenty Wounds Jr, Russell Merdanian, Andrew Plenty Wounds, and Lyle Plenty Wounds.
