Plane Crash During Aerial Race Kills Pilot

Officials in northeast Nebraska say a pilot died when a single-engine plane crashed Friday evening during the MayDay STOL Drag Races at the Wayne Municipal Airport. The identity of the pilot, who was alone in the plane, has not been released.

The competition – short take-off and landing drag racing – involves pilots flying 2,000 feet down a course and back in a side-by-side format.

The event organizers said the pilot crashed on final landing in what appeared to be a stall/spin crash. The rest of the events scheduled for the weekend were canceled.
