The Nebraska Public Power District says an outage that began at 9:34 has left 451 customers in the southwestern portion of Chadron without electricity.
The outage area includes Chadron Community Hospital, which has emergency generators, and at least a portion of Chadron State College, where morning classes have been canceled.
The affected area is trapezoid-shaped from about 3rd and Maple, southeast to the south end of CSC, west to Walmart, and south a mile or two past the Ridgeview Country Club.
NPPD says the cause of the outage has not been determined with crews still assessing conditions and no estimate on when service will be restored.
