Predawn Fire Claims One Life In Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – The Rapid City Fire Dept says one person died early Tuesday morning in a fire in a home subdivided into apartment. The name of the victim has not been released and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the department’s Fire and Life Safety Division.

Four people in the upstairs apartment smelled smoke and called 911 about 5:30 and were able to get outside when firefighters arrived. Firefighters forced their way into the smoke-filled basement apartment where they found the unresponsive victim

Resuscitation efforts were performed, but the person was pronounced after being taken to the hospital. Fire crews reported relatively little fire damage but “significant” smoke damage in the basement apartment.
