Rapid City Indoor Football Team Sold

The Rapid City Marshals of the Champions Indoor Football League have been sold less than halfway through its first season.

The sale by Pick Six Entertainment to Wyoming-based For The Fans was announced Monday on the team’s website by Fans co-owner Wes Johnson.

In it, Johnson says Pick Six, in collaboration with For The Fans, will continue to operate the Marshals for the rest of this season to ensure a smooth transition.

Johnson owns For The Fans with his sister, Rebecca Chapman of Gillette, but he is also the owner of 4 Seasons Events and is CEO of another CIFL team, the Wyoming Mustangs.

He says he and his sister “are committed to the team, coaches, and community of Rapid City” with the goal of owning the club long-term with no plans for any future sale or dissolution of the organization.

Johnson goes on to say that they have a “go big or go home” mentality and are looking forward to expanding the Marshal’s outreach to local schools and community events while striving to bring playoff games and a championship trophy to Rapid City.

The Marshals play at The Monument, but executive director Craig Balzer says he has yet to see any details on the deal. He plans to meet with the owners and team officials after the season about any changes to the rental contract.

Rapid City has lost 5 straight after beating a fellow expansion team, the Topeka Tropic, in the season opener. Topeka is 0-7. The Marshals next game is Sunday at the Billings Bandits.
