Rapid City Police Chief Leaving After 24 Years With Department

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) – Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris is leaving at the end of the month to take a position with the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota, where he says he plans to “continue to advocate for children and families.”

Jegeris has been chief since 2014 and a member of the Rapid City Police Department for 24 years. Mayor Steve Allender, who expects to name an interim replacement before Jegeris leaves on the 26th, says Jegeris served throughout his career “with a sense of calm, compassion and community.”
