Ravnsborg Trial Set For August 26-27

Online court documents show a trial date of August 26 and 27 has been set for South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg on misdemeanor charges stemming from hitting and killing a pedestrian last September.

Ravnsborg is charged with careless driving, operating a vehicle while on an electronic device and driving outside his lane.

Investigators say Ravnsborg was distracted the night of Sept 12th and swerved out of his lane on the highway near Highmore, striking and killing 55-year old Joe Boever of Highmore, who was walking on the shoulder with a flashlight.

Ravnsborg immediately called 911, but said he thought he’d hit a deer. Investigators say Boever’s glasses were found on the passenger seat of the car, which meant his head came through the windshield.

Ravnsborg and the Hyde County sheriff searched the site after the call, but the body wasn’t discovered until the next morning when Ravnsborg stopped at the scene as he returned a borrowed car to the sheriff
