
Thursday was the deadliest day yet for South Dakota in terms of reporting COVID-19 deaths.
The state health department reported 19 deaths, sending the total over 400 to 403. Only 1 of the Thursday deaths was under age 60 and 12 were 80 or older.
The month of October has accounted for 180 deaths, nearly half of all South Dakota’s coronavirus deaths in the pandemic. The previous record high month was last month with 56 deaths.
Another 1,000 confirmed new COVID-19 cases were also reported on Thursday along with 452 recoveries, setting another new record for active cases at 12,462 – including 413 hospitalizations.
There have been 43,000 total cases during the pandemic along with 29,683 recoveries.
