Registration Deadline Here For “The Big Event”

Loading

Chadron State College holds its 10th annual The Big Event community service day a week from tomorrow, but today is the deadline for CSC students, faculty, and staff to sign up and for applications from the community for worksites.

Jobsites can be businesses, churches, and even private homes but there are some limitations. The major two are that, because of liability issues, volunteers can’t use power tools or enter homes.

Common jobsite tasks include, but are not limited to, raking up leaves, prepping gardens for planting, removing litter and painting. Due to liability, volunteers cannot use power tools or enter homes.

Those wanting to apply to be considered for a jobsite can call 308-432-6302 or go to the Chadron State website at CSC.edu/thebig event.

This is the first time in 3 years that The Big Event is back to normal operations. The CSC campus was closed by COVID in 2020 and participants worked independently from their hometowns and reported it online.

Last year, a major snowstorm hit just ahead of The Big Event and the number of worksites was cut roughly in half from the usual 50 because of outdoor conditions – either snow or mud or both, depending on the location.

The number of worksites can change year-to-year depending on the number of applications and the number of volunteers available – with limits because of bad weather always a possibility.
