Rep Fortenberry Gets Challenger In GOP Primary

Loading

State senator and former speaker of the Legislature Mike Flood of Norfolk is challenging 9-term 2nd-District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry in the Republican primary.

Flood, who is in his second go-round in the Unicameral after having been term-limited, had announced a run for governor in 2014, but dropped after his wife was diagnosed with cancer. She has since recovered.

Fortenberry is facing federal charges related to an illegal campaign contribution from a foreign national in 2016.

He’s scheduled for trial next month in California for allegedly misleading federal authorities investigating the 2016 donation.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Patty Pansing Brooks of Lincoln, a state senator who’s term-limited.
