The Highway 20 remodel was scheduled to start Monday, June 8th. Terry Wilson, Project Manager for Nebraska Department of Transportation, said, ‘ The contractor asked for a late start request.’ The work is now supposed to begin on June 22nd.
Simon Contractors, Inc, of Cheyenne Wyoming, was awarded the bid and will be running the operation. They hope to finish the road work in November 2026.
The remodel plans encompass Highway 20 from the Junction on the west side of Chadron to Pine Street. Then from Spruce Street to the edge of town will also be redone.
The work will include asphalt paving, culvert extensions, sidewalks, flumes, grading and seeding. One lane will be done at a time with road workers directing traffic.
