Robert “Bob” Painter

Funeral services for 83-year old Robert “Bob” Painter of Crawford, NE, are Friday, April 24, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Scottsbluff Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop John Blomstedt presiding.

Masks are required and social distancing will be observed during the service.

Burial will follow at 3 pm at the Glendale Cemetery southwest of Crawford.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Bob’s honor be sent in care of the family to be designated at a later time.

Robert (Bob) Painter was born Feb 6, 1938, to parents Preston and Marion Painter in Belle Fourche, SD, and died April 18, 2021 at the Monument Care Center in Scottsbluff.

Bob grew up in Harding County, SD, where he attended the Painter School through 7th grade. He then went to Belle Fourche Junior High and High School, graduating in 1956. He placed 2nd in bulldogging at the national high school rodeo finals in Nevada.

Bob attended Colorado A&M Fort Collins, now CSU, graduating in 1960 with a BS Degree in Animal Husbandry. 

He met his wife, Jan, while working at the Equine Department at CSU and they were married Aug 27, 1958 in Albuquerque, NM.

Bob worked for the State of New Mexico in Albuquerque from graduation until 1963, when he moved to South Dakota and lived on ranches around the Black Hills including near Rochford, Spearfish on the Red Water River, Rapid City, and Newell.

Bob moved to Sioux County, NE, near Crawford in 1977 and resided there until August of 2020.

Bob converted with his family to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints in 1971 and for a time in the 80’s served the Church as Branch President in Oglala, SD.

Bob and Jan raised Morgan horses and Bob served on the board of Directors for Morgan Horse Association.

Bob is survived by his daughter Heidi Painter of Albuquerque; NM; sons Rob (Lori) Painter of Mesa, AZ and Nathan (Kate) Painter of Scottsbluff, NE; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren along with his 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Bob was preceded in death most recently by his wife Jan Gillespie Painter, his brothers James, who died in infancy, his younger brother Daniel, and his parents Preston and Marion Painter.
