Graveside services for 75-year old Sandra “Sandi” (Marshall) Scucchi of Starkville, MS, formerly of Harrison, NE, are Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 10:00 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, NE, with Pastor Aaron Sprock officiating.
A memorial service was held Thursday, July 7, 2022 in Starkville, where she’d lived since 1971.
It is suggested that memorials be to the Samaritan’s Purse for Operation Christmas Child or for Open Door For Missions, sent in in care of the Open Door Church, 1350 Table Road, Chadron, NE 69337
Sandra “Sandi” was born to Martin “Fuzz” and Lucille (Scott) Marshall in Chadron on Feb. 21, 1947, and died July 1, 2022 in Starkville following a short bout with cancer
Sandi spent her first year of life on the well-known J Bar L Ranch in Sioux County, NE, and the next four years on a family ranch and grandparents’ farm in Dawes County, NE, where she was joined by her sister, Mary Lou.
In 1952, the family moved to Palisade, Neb., where Fuzz was the herdsman for Schroeder Cattle Co and where Sandi attended her first 5 years of elementary school.
In 1958, the family moved back to Sioux County and worked as a team while operating what became known as the 4X Ranch on the Niobrara River southwest of Harrison. Sandi completed her grade school education at Harrison Elementary and went on to graduate from Sioux County High School in 1965.
That was followed by Arkansas State University at Jonesboro, where she met Robie P Scucchi. They were married on June 16, 1968, in Harrison and lived three years in the St Louis area where Robie taught art and Sandi did long-term substitute teaching.
They moved to Starkville in 1971 when Robie became a professor of art at Mississippi State University and she was employed at the MSU Comptroller’s Office. She went on to earn a BA in sociology from MSU.
The couple’s shared love of adventure led them to brief residences in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Cortona, Italy. The couple also had a successful Quarter Horse farm for several years prior to Robie’s passing in 2000.
Sandi was active in the Crosspoint Baptist Church, a ladies’ Bible study, and the Starkville Civic League. She was a devout Christian, having accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior when she was a child. Her faith provided guidance, strength, comfort and peace in many situations she encountered.
Her survivors include her sister Mary Lou Marshall of Chadron, foster sister Pat Weinhold (Alan) and their family of Scottsbluff, NE, several in-laws, aunt Margaret Marshall of Chadron, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, parents-in-law Robie Sr and Denver Scucchi and brothers-in-law Jimmy and John Scucchi.
