Scooter’s Coffee Shop Chain Coming To Chadron

     A major drive-thru coffee chain is coming to Chadron.

Jay and Jessamyn Voss of Hay Springs say they hope to open their Scooter’s Coffee Shop franchise on the former Bruhn’s Laundry property at 3rd and Mears in a few months.

      The project cleared what is expected to be its final hurdle Monday when the city council approved rezoning the rear portion of the property from Urban Family Residential to Community Commercial.

      City building and zoning officer Janet Johnson told the council the car wash area behind the building had been grandfathered in, but needed to be rezoned for the project.

      Johnson had nothing but praise for the Vosses and Scooter’s, saying the corporation was exceptional and thorough in its diligence and meeting all city requests.

      Jay Voss said their plan is to close the property sale before the end of the month, then demolish all the existing structures and start construction in May. He said they’re still waiting for the results from soil testing, but are confident all is well.

      The coffee shop, which will be drive-thru only, will be in roughly the middle of the property with the main entrance and exit on 3rd Street and another on Mears. There will be 20-feet of greenscaping along 3rd Street and 10-feet along Mears.

     Voss said they expect to create 20-to-25 jobs with hours of 5:30 am to 7:00 pm 7 days a week. The menu will offer breakfast items such as muffins and cinnamon rolls along with hot and iced drinks, cold-brew coffee, smoothies, teas, and blenders.

     Scooter’s has about 420 locations across the Midwest including ones in Alliance and Scottsbluff.
