
The South Dakota Dept of Health reported 1,731 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
That’s the highest one-day total in the state, topping the old mark of 1,559 on October 30th. Active cases rose by 1,261 to 18,722 – also a record.
Health officials say 551 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized and occupy roughly 20% of the state’s hospital beds and 30% of the state’s ICU beds. About 34% of both hospital and ICU beds are still available.
South Dakota has had 57,438 total cases, 567 deaths, and 41,427 recoveries. Based on those figures, one in 47 residents has an active COVID-19 case, while roughly one in 15 has been infected at some point during the pandemic.
