Health officials say 551 COVID-19 patients are currently hospitalized and occupy roughly 20% of the state’s hospital beds and 30% of the state’s ICU beds. About 34% of both hospital and ICU beds are still available. South Dakota has had 57,438 total cases, 567 deaths, and 41,427 recoveries. Based on those figures, one in 47 residents has an active COVID-19 case, while roughly one in 15 has been infected at some point during the pandemic.
