The South Dakota Highway Patrol confirms that the man killed in a collision between an SUV and a semi on Hwy 79 in Hermosa Friday morning was from Chadron.
The Highway Patrol says 80-year old Dannie Barcal was northbound in the SUV inside the Hermosa city limits about about 8:30 when he tried to go across the highway and into a parking lot.
He turned directly in front of a southbound semi and the SUV was hit by the truck. Barcal was taken by ambulance to a Rapid City hospital where he later died. The 29-year-old Arizona man driving the semi was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
