Sec Of State Throws Out Gambling Petitions, Cites Confusing Language

Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen says he won’t put 3 initiated measures to legalize casino gambling on the November ballot, not because they didn’t get enough signatures but because he believes the language they used was misleading and confusing.

Leaders of the citizen petition drive announced last month they had more than enough signatures to submit the issue to voters, so they are expected to appeal Evnen’s ruling in court.

They launched the campaign after Nebraska lawmakers repeatedly rejected measures to legalize casino gambling in the state.
