Senator Fischer Names Nominees To Service Academies

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Nebraska U-S Senator Deb Fischer has released her nominees to attend the nation’s five service academies, but only 1 of the 33 is from the Panhandle.

Fischer, a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, nominated Levi Kicken of Gering for the Military Academy at West Point.

Each senator can nominate eligible individuals from their state for West Point, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Naval Academy at Annapolis, the Coast Guard Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy.

Nomination doesn’t guarantee acceptance, it simply begins the application process within the respective academy – which has the final say on who finally gets in.

Fischer calls its a privilege to make the nominations, call the students “hard workers and proven leaders who will make our state and country proud.” She also thanks all of them for their willingness to continue Nebraska’s long-standing tradition of defending the nation.
