An impeachment hearing for Oglala Sioux Tribal President Julian Bear Runner by the tribal council has been scheduled in two weeks on Sept 14.
The council suspended Bear Runner with pay last Monday after he was accused of inappropriate contact this summer with a 17-year-old boy.
The Rapid City Journal reports the accusation came from the boy’s father, who accused the president of grooming his son for inappropriate sexual touching in a motel room once he turned 18.
According to the accusation, Bear Runner, who is in his 30s, contacted the boy on social media. The impeachment hearing is set for Sept. 14.
The tribal council suspended Bear Runner for a month and quarantined him for 2 weeks in July for failing to adequately conferring with it before issuing a 72-hour coronavirus lockdown for the Pine Ridge Reservation.
