Single-Vehicle Rollovers Near Martin And North Of Kimball Each Claim One Life

Two traffic deaths were reported in the KCSR listening area on Saturday, one in the southwest corner of the Panhandle and the other just north of the South Dakota state line near Martin.

Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas says one man was killed and one hospitalized in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 71 in Banner County. Names have not yet been released.

Thomas says the accident occurred around 7:30 PM about 25 miles north of Kimball when the driver lost control of his vehicle, apparently after hitting debris on the pavement.

The vehicle rolled and caught fire, igniting a grass fire later controlled by fire units. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while an injured passenger was taken to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

In the other accident, the South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 35-year old man died in a one-vehicle rollover around 1:00 Saturday afternoon about 2 miles south of Martin on Hwy 73.

The Highway Patrol says the man was southbound when he was lost control of his pickup and it eventually went into the east ditch and rolled.

He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
