Sioux County Girls To Join Crawford Basketball Team

Loading

Sioux County and Crawford will field a joint girls basketball team this winter.

Both boards approved the move earlier this month, and it will now go before the Nebraska School Activities Association board for final approval at the state level. Details of the agreement, which also allows the teams to co-op for golf, have been mostly ironed out, said Sioux County Principal and Activities Director Barry Swisher.

Right now, it appears four Sioux County players will join the Crawford Rams on the hardcourt. Sioux County will provide transportation for their students to practices in Crawford. The co-op team will play under the name and colors of Crawford and play the schedule Crawford has in place. The co-op agreement will run for two years, and the districts can re-evaluate the situation at that time.

Swisher said Sioux County had just five returning players for this season, and the numbers dropped even lower next season.

Co-op agreements for basketball are due to the NSAA before Sept. 1 and must run for two seasons to accommodate scheduling.
