
The region is continuing to dig out from Sunday’s snowstorm, but there’s no school again today for Crawford and Sioux County.
Enough highways remain closed that Chadron State College is delaying its return from Mid Semester Break for another day and keeping the campus closed.
Director of College Relations Alex Helmbrecht says many students have not yet returned campus and the school wants them to wait until road conditions are safe before trying to drive back. Residence halls and dining services will remain open.
Helmbrecht says CSC is telling students to check road conditions at Nebraska 511 Traveler Information before trying to return to campus.
Hwy 385 is open from the South Dakota line to Sidney, Hwys 2, 26, and 27 are completely open, but as of 7:30 this morning, Hwy 71 remained closed from Gering to the Colorado line and Hwy 88 is closed from Bridgeport to the Wyoming line
I-80 eastbound is open, but westbound remains closed at the I-76/I-80 junction near Big Springs because of conditions in Wyoming – where 0fficials say it will remain closed until at least 10:00 tonight because of huge drifts.
Interstate 25 is closed from Casper to the Colorado State line and officials say it will remain closed until at least 8:00 tonight.
In Chadron, driving lanes are cleared but a number of streets still have windrows in the middle which crews are still working to remove.
