The Rapid City City Council meets in special session Monday night to consider a mask mandate for the city.
The council has been working on the issue for most of the last month and will choose between two ordinances and a resolution – all requiring face coverings.
One ordinance requires masks in public indoor spaces and has penalties for violations while the other has no enforcement and no penalties.
Cities across South Dakota have moved to pass their own mask requirements because Gov Kristi Noem not only refuses to issue a mask mandate, she won’t recommend wearing masks voluntarily.
