7th Inning Homers Lead Charon Over SVA

Maci Rutledge and Kinley Richardson each smacked a homerun in the top of the 7th inning as the Chadron High softball team overcame a two run deficit for a 12-11 win over Southern Valley/Alma on Friday night.

It was the season opener for both teams. It’s also the first time since 2015 that the Cardinals have won a season opener.

Chadron carried a 9-7 lead into the bottom of the 5th before the Saints scored four straight to take an 11-9 lead to the 7th.

Both teams have a quick turnaround as the make up part of the field for Saturday’s Lexington Invite.

Chadron opens with Adams Central at 9:30 am. The Cards will either face Holdrege or Southern Valley/Alma in the next round at 11:00 am.

Lexington will meet Alliance and Scottsbluff faces Gothenburg in the top of the bracket.
