Chadron’s Chayton Bynes came away with the first medal of the weekend at Wednesday’s opening day of the Nebraska High School Track & Field Championships.

Bynes took 4th place in the Class B boys triple jump with his mark on his 3rd jump of the 3rd flight reaching 44’ 6.5”. The leap was good enough to move him into the finals, but Bynes couldn’t improve his distance.

It’s the 2nd straight year atop the medal stand for Bynes who took 7th in the same event last year. The Senior will end his Chadron High triple jump career owning the school and district record he set just last week in Ogallala with his leap of 47’ 5.75”.

Bynes will have another shot at a medal on Thursday in the long jump as well as the 4x100m relay.

Xander Provance and Rhett Cullers had the 3rd and 5th fastest prelims time to advance to the finals of the 110 high hurdles. Malachi Swallow is off to the finals of the 300m intermediate hurdles after clocking the 4th fastest qualifying time.

Thursday will be a loaded day for the Cardinals in addition to those who advanced to the finals on Wednesday. Tatum Bailey will double up with both the high jump and triple jump first thing in the morning.

The Chadron boys will have a pair of relays on the track for the 4x100m and 4x400m.

Carter Ryan is in the boys 800m and Kyndall Carnahan is a part of the girls 1600m.
