Justus Alcorn poured in a career high 22 points and the Chadron boys held off Hot Springs 51-48 on the road Saturday night.

For the Cardinals the win gives them their 11th of the season, and guarantees Chadron their first winning season since 2014-15.

The Cards built an early lead behind Alcorn and Gaurav Chima, but the margin was just three at the end of the first quarter, 15-12.

Collin Brennan dropped in seven of his ten points in the second quarter, pushing Chadron to a 30-23 halftime lead.

Chadron’s offense disappeared in the third quarter and Hot Springs used it as an opportunity to cut the deficit to three heading to the fourth quarter.

Halfway through the fourth quarter Hot Springs took the lead at 46-45, and again at 48-47 before Chadron scored the final four points.

Like Alcorn and Brennan, Chima finished the night in double figures with 15 on five made threes.

The Cardinal will now wait to see who their sub-district opponent will be.  The boys postseason begins on February 22nd.
