Cardinals Stunned At The Buzzer By Sidney

A Sidney buzzer beating lay-up spoiled Chadron’s valiant 2nd half effort and lifted the Red Raiders past the Cardinals 55-53 in the 3rd place game of the boys Western Conference Tournament.

Sidney torched the nets with 8 three pointers and ran to a 41-25 halftime lead.

For 15 minutes and 58 seconds, the 2nd half belonged to Chadron. The Cardinals won the 3rd quarter 13-5 to cut the deficit to 46-38 and pushed ahead in the fourth on two separate occasions, the last coming at 53-51 with under two minutes left in the game.

Sidney tied the game on a run out, off of a missed Cardinal jumper, and then held the ball for the final minute after a Chadron turnover before drawing up the game winning play in a time out with 2.5 seconds remaining.

Three Cardinals hit double figures led by Gaurav Chima and Collin Brennan with 13 apiece. Justus Alcorn finished with 12 and Xander Provance had 10.

Chadron will bring a 1-2 record into Friday’s home meeting with Gordon-Rushville.
