Chadron AD Andy Pope Announces Retirement

Chadron High Activities Director Andy Pope has informed Chadrad Sports that he will be retiring at the end of the school year.

When reached by phone on Monday morning Pope told Chadrad Sports that it was simply the right time.

Pope has been with the Chadron School District since 1984, the last third of those years as the Chadron High Activities Director.

Pope was named the district 6 athletic director of the year in 2019 by the Nebraska State Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

Pope also spent 11 years as the Cardinal boys basketball coach in the late 80’s and 90’s, finishing with a record 109-92.

Prior to his time at Chadron, Pope made teaching and coaching stops in Wallace, Maywood, and Humphrey St. Francis.

Pope originally came to Chadron in the mid-70’s to play for the Chadron State men’s basketball and baseball teams. He was a four year letter winner on the hardwood.
