Chadron Boys & Girls Have Streaks Snapped At Gering

The Chadron boys overcame an early 10 point deficit to take an 11 point 3rd quarter lead only to falter against Gering 61-60 on Friday.

Leading 45-34 with 1:45 to go in the 3rd the Cardinals gave up a 19-2 Gering run to watch the Bulldogs go on top 53-47.

The Cards reclaimed the lead with under a minute to go at 60-59 before Gering nailed a pair of free throws that would end up being the game winners.

Chadron went 10-of-23 at the charity stripe while Gering buried 16-of-20.

Justus Alcorn led the Cardinals with a career high 26 points.

Missed layups and turnovers doomed the Chadron girls as they saw their 8 game winning streak end to Gering 51-41.

The Cardinals missed 6 layups in the opening quarter and fell behind 11-5 after one.

Chadron started the 2nd quarter on a 9-3 run to tie the game at 14, but the Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 run to close the half for a 21-14 lead at the break.

Gering pulled away in the 3rd and the Cardinals never got closer than 8 in the 2md half.

Laney Klemke and Makinley Fuller had 8 points a piece for Chadron.

Both teams fall to 10-5 on the season and will travel to Gordon-Rushville on Saturday. Game time is set for 5:00 pm.
