An early trick play and a fumble returned for a touchdown highlighted the Chadron High football team’s effort in a 28-15 playoff-clinching win over Ogallala on Friday night.
On the second play of the game, halfback Dawson Dunbar took a pitch and the passed down the far side of the field to a wide-open Seth Gaswick for an 81-yard touchdown. A 2-point conversion made it 8-0.
Late in the first quarter, quarterback Justus Alcorn fired a pass into the end zone to Michael Sorenson to extend the Chadron lead out to 16-0.
Ogallala would score in the second quarter, but Chadron was able to answer with a pair of scores before half, one an Alcorn to Dunbar pass and the other a fumble return of 42-yards for a touchdown as time expired by Gaswick .
The Cardinals would go scoreless in the second half and Ogallala put some excitement into the final minute with a touchdown and recovering an on-side kick, but it was far from enough to keep Chadron from collecting its sixth win of the season to all but stamp their name in the C-1 playoff bracket.
Official pairings will be released on Saturday morning.
