Chadron Girls, Boys Dominate Holiday Classic Semifinals

The Chadron girls and boys basketball teams advanced to their respective championship games of the Chadron Rotary George Watson Holiday Classic.

Behind career nights from Laney Klemke and Makinley Fuller the Chadron girls rolled over Custer 43-17.

Klemke scored a game high 15 and Fuller added 13 as the Cardinals advanced to play Valentine in Wednesday’s championship. Valentine beat Hemingford 41-37 in the other semifinal.

Chadron bolted out from the tip, shutting out the Wildcats 12-0 in the opening quarter and building a lead as big as 30 in the 2nd half.

Much like the girls, the Chadron boys dominated the opening quarter against Custer to the tune of 25-4 on their way to a 62-36 win.

Chadron had three players reach double figures led by 15 from Xander Provance. Justus Alcorn chipped in 11 and Gaurav Chima had 10.

After the first quarter barrage, Chadron won the last three quarters just 37-32.

The Cardinals will match up with Hemingford, a 55-51 winner over Valentine, in Wednesday’s championship game.
