Six of Chadron’s seven wrestlers have clinched a spot at next weekend’s B4 district meet after placing 4th or better at the B4-A sub-district meet at Ogallala on Saturday.
Braden Underwood, Daniel Wellnitz, Rhett Cullers, Sawyer Haag, Kade Waggener, and Ryan Bickel will all move on to next Saturday’s district meet in Gering.
Bickel at 285 and Waggener at 182 both placed 1st in Ogallala. A small field meant Bickel had to wrestle just once, winning in the finals 6-4 to improve to 28-4 on the season Waggener had 2 matches and won both by pin to move to 35-3.
The 170-lb Haag finished 2nd and also wrestled just twice, posting a 3-2 decision before being pinned in the finals and seeing his record go to 30-8.
Wellnitz lost his first match at 152 in overtime, then dominated his final two matches with a major decision and a pin as his record goes to 30-10
Underwood and Cullers each finished 4th. Underwood, 22-18 at 120, lost by a pin, won by a pin, and lost by decision while Cullers won by a pin, lost 0-2, won by a pin and lost by a pin in the 3rd place match to stand 30-14.
Gordon-Rushville will also send six on to districts after the C4-A subdistrict Saturday in Mitchell.
Tucker Banister, Traiton Starr, Jace Freeseman, Drake Brewer, Tegan Snyder, and Talon Pascoe will compete at the C4 district meet in Valentine next Saturday.
The top four finishers in each weight class at the district meets will advance to the state meet at the CHI Health Center in Omaha February, 17-20th and we will have live coverage on AM 610 KCSR, Chadrad.com, and the KCSR Radio App.
