Chadron, Hay Springs, G-R Lead The Way With West Nebraska All-Star Picks


Rosters have been released for the 43rd annual West Nebraska All-Star football game and the 37th annual West Nebraska All-Star volleyball, both of which will be held Saturday, June 12th in Scottsbluff.

Five area athletes were selected as members of the West volleyball team, while three more will be a part of the West football team.  

Chadron will be represented by Anika Burke and Emma Cogdill.  Gordon-Rushville’s Jayla Brehmer, Hay Springs’ Jocec Varvel, and Crawford’s Cambrea Vogel will all be West teammates.  Bruke, Brehmer, and Vogel are all set to play volleyball at the next level.

When reached by phone on Tuesday, Varvel said, “I was extremely excited when I got my letter. I am super excited to play volleyball one more time with these great athletes and especially for my coach Lisa Merritt.”

Hay Springs’ head volleyball coach Lisa Hughes-Merritt is the West assistant coach.

Chadron head football coach Mike Lecher will lead the West football squad and will be joined by Jonn McLain as an assistant coach.

Players selected as part of the West are Chadron’s Sawyer Haag, Gordon-Rushville’s Cade Goings, and Charles Twarling of Hay Springs.

The football game will be hosted at Scottsbluff’s Bearcat Stadium and the volleyball game will be played at WNCC’s Cougar Palace.
