Sidney won the Juniors’ contest 6-4, thanks largely to the fact that tall right-hander Micah Schneider pitched a no-hitter and struck out 10 through 6 2/3 innings. Because of pitch count, he had to leave the game with one batter to go. Chadron then got 4 hits and a walk and scored three times off the reliever before the final out was made in the bottom of the seventh. Chadron had scored one run in the first following a walk and a throwing error.
Chadron won the Seniors’ game 10-9 by scoring four runs in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings. Seth Gaswick drove in the winning run after two were out in the seventh. However, the Player of the Game had to be Dan Wellnitz, who doubled off a runner at first after catching a fly ball in right field in the fifth inning and then had base hits in both the sixth and seventh innings to drive in three runs.
The Juniors have an eight-team Wood Bat Tournament this weekend. Chadron will play Gordon-Rushville at 11 a.m. and Gering at 5:45 on Friday evening and a Rapid City Tournament at 5:45 on Sunday.
