Last week saw the Prep and Senior FNBO Nationals both pick up wins. On Thursday, the Preps and Seniors faced Sidney in Sidney. The Preps started the night out with a big 15-3 win. Tobin Landen and Tobin Meyer teamed up on the mound, giving up just two hits in the contest. Meyer came in relief of Landen, pitching well, striking out four and holding Sidney scoreless. It was a good outing for Meyer having recovered from an injury that kept him out most of the season. Bricen Wright led the way at the plate, going 3-4 with a double and a triple. In the Seniors game, the Nats prevailed 10-2. Seth Gaswick pitched well, going five innings, with six strikeouts. Gaswick also saw the ball well, going 3-3 with three RBIs. Jordan Bissonette also collected multiple hits going 2-3 with a double on the night.

On Saturday, the Seniors traveled to Valentine to take on the host squad and O’Neill. Unfortunately, like several games this summer, both games were canceled due to heavy rains and an unplayable field. The Preps had better luck on their trip to Rapid City, splitting the series 1-1 with scores of 16-4 and 1-17. In the first game of the doubleheader, Tobin Meyer had another strong outing on the mound, going the distance in the five-inning game giving up four runs and striking out 9. James Koerber led the Nats at the plate, going 4-4 with four RBI’s. Bricen and Braden Wright along with Jack O’brien all saw action on the mound. Tayven Jenkins and Tobin Landen were the bright spots at the plate with each collecting one hit.

The doubleheader in Rapid City ended a very successful inaugural season for the Prep team. Their final record was 14-8. From all accounts, the experiment was a success allowing the younger players to get a taste of what the rest of their Legion careers will look like. Participation in tournaments, traveling to more towns in the Panhandle, and the ability for them to step up and play on the Juniors team will set them up for success in the future.

The Seniors are in action this weekend in Ogallala at the Area 7 Tournament. The Nats will take on Alliance Friday evening at 7. The tournament will run through next Tuesday where the winner will represent Western Nebraska at the Class B State Tournament in Broken Bow that starts July 29th.
