Chadron sent six wrestlers to districts on Saturday, five of them will now be competing at the state tournament next Friday and Saturday at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
At 182-lbs, Kade Waggener was the only Cardinal to find his way into a championship match. After a pair of wins by decision, Waggener was pinned in the championship by Kaleb Pohl of Cozad.
Ryan Bickel and Daniel Wellnitz were third place finishers at 285 and 152-lbs respectively. All three of Bickel’s wins were by pin, and Wellnitz is the only repeat qualifier out of the group.
Rhett Cullers, at 160-bs, and Sawyer Haag, at 170-lbs. each placed fourth, but Haag was an eyelash away from wrestling for a district championship after losing in the semifinals by sudden victory.
