Chadron Splits With G-R As Holiday Break Approaches

Chadron cut a 10 point deficit down to two with :29 seconds remaining but the Cardinals couldn’t overcome 10 3-pointers from Gordon-Rushville in a 55-51 loss on Tuesday night.

Chadron trailed 53-43 with about a minute to go before getting a basket from Justus Alcorn and back to back threes from Broc Berry and Dawson Dunbar to make it 53-51.

Ellis Livingston sank a pair of Gordon-Rushville free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.

Justus Alcorn powered Chadron with 19 points and Gaurav Chima chipped in 14.

The girls game was just as exciting as Jaleigh McCartney buried a three from the right wing with 16 seconds left in the game to give Chadron a 41-40 win over Gordon-Rushville.

Chadron carried a 33-29 lead into the 4th quarter but the Lady Mustangs crawled back to take a 40-38 lead with under a minute to go before McCartney made the game winner.

McCartney had a career high 20 points to lead Chadron on the back of six three pointers.

Both Chadron teams enter Christmas break at 3-4 and will each take on Custer next Tuesday in the George Watson Chadron Rotary Holiday Classic from the Chicoine Center at Chadron State.
