After numerous delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Chadron State College football season will open its season Saturday, Oct. 10 by playing the Colorado Mesa Mavericks in Grand Junction. Kickoff will be at noon.

CSC Head Coach Jay Long said his players are excited about getting to play.  At least 50 of them remained in Chadron this summer to work out in hopes the season would happen.  There are about 120 on the roster.

The Eagles’ offense is led by senior quarterback Dalton Holst, who has thrown for 8,000 yards and 69 touchdowns the past three seasons. It also features inside receiver Cole Thurness, who has caught 111 passes for 1,528 yards and 15 TDs the past two years and was voted the team’s MVP both times.

The defense has five returning starters, including middle linebacker Travis Wilson, who had 124 tackles last season, the most in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

This week’s game is the first of six for the Eagles. The next two are at home against South Dakota Mines on Oct. 17 and Black Hills State on Oct. 24.
