Chadron Takes Two From Hot Springs

The Chadron boys and girls welcomed in the new year with a sweep of Hot Springs at the Bird Cage on Tuesday night.

It was a less than stellar start for the Chadron girls as they fell behind 6-4 after the first quarter. The pace dragged along until Demi Ferguson came alive to score 9 2nd quarter points to give Chadron a 16-10 lead at the break.

Gears changed in the 2nd half as the Cardinals held the Bison to just 5 points over the final 16 minutes to pull away for a 45-15 win.

Ferguson finished with 16 points and Macey Daniels stepped up with 11.

Justus Alcorn exploded for 13 first half points as the Chadron boys overcame a halftime deficit to take down the Hot Springs boys 50-44.

Alcorn scored 11 of those 13 points in a first quarter that saw the Cardinals get out to a 17-10 lead.

The Bison responded by taking a 27-35 halftime lead on a buzzer beating halfcourt heave from Preston Iverson.

The 3rd quarter belonged to Chadron, outsourcing Hot Springs 15-4. Hot Springs trimmed a 13 point Chadron lead down to the final margin of 6 but time ran out.

Alcorn finished the night as the only Cardinal in double figures with 19.

Chadron will entertain Belle Fourche on Friday as both teams sit at 6-4.
