It’s a busy night of football in the tri-state region. Teams in Wyoming and South Dakota are playing for state championships while Nebraska has reached the semifinals.
A pair of Western Nebraska teams are still around in the D6 playoffs. Top seeded Cody-Kilgore is at Wallace for a 5 pm kickoff. Potter-Dix, the 2nd seed, is traveling to Spalding Academy for a 1:00 pm game. Both teams are looking for the first championship game appearance.
Chadron’s first round opponent Battle Creek is heading to Mid-States Conference rival Pierce trying to reach the C1 finals for the first time since 1996.
In Wyoming, two of the five championship games will be played today at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.
First up is the 1A 6-man title game featuring Encampment and Little Snake River, they were the top two seeds out of the west.
In 3A it’ll also be the top two teams from the west as Cody takes on Jackson Hole.
Three champions were crowned in the Rushmore state on Thursday as all three classes of 9-man were in action.
Dell Rapids St. Mary needed double OT to win the first 9B title 44-42 over Potter County. In 9A it was Howard, who needed a comeback to beat Wall in the semifinals, thumping Herreid/Selby Area 55-18.
It was a defensive struggle in 9AA with Platte-Geddes holding off Canistota-Freeman 14-8.
Today’s game include #1 Winner against the team that eliminated Hot Springs for the playoffs, Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan, in 11B.
In 11A unbeaten Madison takes on Milbank and in 11AA it’s Tea Area against Pierre T.F Riggs.
