Eagles Tie Second-Best Round Ever Posted by Jeremy Anderson Date: September 15, 2020 132 Views The Chadron State College women’s golf team dropped 11 strokes off its team score on Tuesday, matching the program’s No. 2 two-round score all-time, to finish at 330-319-649 in the Swan Memorial tourney at Todd Creek Golf Club in Denver. The Eagles were fifth of nine teams, all competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. “We did pretty well today,” said CSC Head Women’s Golf Coach Dr. John Ritzen. “Yesterday we all kind of struggled, but it had been a long time since we’d played in a tournament. Pretty much everyone improved today. We’ve got some improvement to do, and hopefully we’ll be able to build on this.” As she did in all six of last year’s events, sophomore Alpine Hickstein led the team. Hickstein carded matching rounds of 78 to finish one stroke over her career best of 155. Individually she placed 10th at the meet, which was hosted by Colorado Christian University. For a pair of returning freshmen, their two-day scores were all-time bests. Allison Acosta set new personal low round and tourney scores, firing 80-83-163, while Kenzey Kanno led the team with four birdies and matched both her career low 18 and 36-hole collegiate scores recording 87-78-165. Six of the nine CSC golfers who made the trip birdied at least once on Tuesday, including all five who competed for team points. CSC was only two strokes behind preseason RMAC championship favorite CCU on Monday, settling 14 behind the Cougars over the two rounds. The Eagles put 34 strokes between themselves and the No. 6 team, Fort Lewis College. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs came from behind five strokes to win the team crown, despite losing one of its five golfers to disqualification on Monday. The Mountain Lions finished at 306-307-613 for the event. CCU’s Faith Kilgore set a new RMAC record for lowest round in 18 holes by carding a seven-under 65 on Tuesday, running away with the individual title by seven strokes at 141. Chadron State’s next outing is planned for September 28 in Spearfish, South Dakota.
