Colorado State Fires Football Coach Steve Addazio

The Steve Addazio Era of Colorado State Football is over after just 16 games. The 62-year old Addazio was 1-3 in last year’s COVID-shortened season and 3-9 this year. He was ejected from the final game, the first CSC coach to suffer that fate.

The buyout on the remaining 3 years of his contract dropped from $5-M to $3-M on Thursday and he was fired later in the day.

CSU athletic director Joe Parker said in announcing the firing that “Our expectation is to compete for conference championships and reach bowl eligibility each season.

After a thorough review of where our program stands today and our outlook for the future, looking at the totality of factors, I felt this was a necessary step.”

Parker also said CSU will utilize “a national search firm” is seeking the next head coach, but he didn’t specify a timetable.

Addazio’s tenure at CSU is the 2nd-shortest in program history behind George Cassidy, who was 0-5 in 1910, his only season.

The Rams finished the 2021 campaign on a six-game losing streak with rapidly dwindling crowds at Canvas Stadium, the 36,500-seat on-campus facility that opened in August 2017.

The season-ending, 52-10 home loss to Nevada last Saturday drew an announced crowd of 17,465, or just 47% of capacity with attendance for the last 3 home games just 62% of capacity.
