COVID-19 Postpones 3 of 4 CSC Opening Weekend Games In Colorado

The Chadron State men’s and women’s basketball teams were to open their seasons this weekend with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games in southwest Colorado, but 3 of the 4 are off.

CSC says that due to Covid-19 factors and an abundance of caution, both the men’s and women’s games Friday at Fort Lewis in Durango have been postponed along with the men’s game at Western Colorado in Gunnison.

The Lady Eagles, pending test results, will travel by bus on Friday to Gunnison and play their game as scheduled on Saturday.

CSC emphasizes that the affected games are postponed and not cancelled, but also says they “may” try to reschedule if dates are available later in the season.

Black Hills State was also to play in Gunnison and Durango this weekend, but both men’s games have been cancelled with Black Hills saying there are no plans to reschedule.

The Fort Lewis and Western Colorado men will still have one game each this weekend – against each other Saturday at Fort Lewis in a non-conference battle.

It’s been a frustrating season so far for the Chadron State men. They were originally scheduled to start their season along with the Lady Eagles the Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving, but COVID-19 issues postponed both doubleheaders to the Sunday and Monday after New Year’s.

The CSC men were then invited to fill a vacancy at the D-1 Golden Windows Classic in Lincoln, only to have that invitation withdrawn after the D-1 schools they were to play complained – one of them leaving the tournament all together.

Now the Eagles will open the season next weekend at home against Westminster and Colorado Mesa as part of doubleheaders with the women.
