Crawford’s Welling Goes 1-2 At State Wrestling

Crawford wrestler Kolby Welling saw his season come to an end on Wednesday at the Class D state tournament at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.

Welling was upset in his opening match by Kade Bottorf of Twin Loup by an 11-7 decision.

Dropping into the first round of consolations, Welling mounted a comeback with a pin of Hunter Gress of High Plains in 4:30.

In the second round of consolations it was another tough loss, this time to Brett Tryon of Southwest by an 8-6 decision.

The win against Gress was Welling’s first at the state tournament after going 0-2 last year.

Welling, just a Junior, finishes his season with a 24-6 record and a district championship.
