The Chadron State College cross country teams were back in action Friday, after nearly three weeks, at the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota, at the Les Bolstad Cross Country Course in Minneapolis.
The CSC men were 18th of 27 collegiate teams, ranging from NCAA Division II, to Division III, to the NAIA junior college organizations.
Chadron State women placed 24th of 27 squads.
Freshman Cale Schafer, of LaSalle, Colorado, was the first to cross the finish line for the Eagles. He was 99th in the men’s race, out of 374 runners who finished, with the 8,000-kilometer time of 27:58.5.
In the women’s race, freshman Alissa Wieman led the way for CSC. Her finish of 24:52.5 on the six-kilometer course ranked 118th of 238.
The NCAA Division II and Division III race, titled the “Maroon” division, was won by the Wayne State University team from Michigan, on the men’s side, and the women’s team from the University of Mary.
