The Chadron State College golf team shot a program record 306 Sunday and jumped from 7th to 4th in the 10-team Southwest Minnesota State Mustang Invite. The Eagles’ 320-306-626 missed the school record for 36 holes by 1 stroke. Both marks had been set in April at last season’s RJGA Palm Valley Classic.

“The ladies played great on day two,” said Head CSC Golf Coach John Ritzen. “I’m proud of how they bounced back and improved today. The school record will give us a good goal to shoot for moving forward. This course played similar to Pueblo Country Club, so hopefully we can keep the good play going through our next tournament there.”

CSC’s 306 was the 2nd-lowest score on Sunday and 3rd lowest of the tournament behind winner Augustana, who fired a 299-304-603

Junior Alpine Hickstein shot a 78-73-151 to finish 4th. Hickstein missed her own program records for 18 and 36 hole scores by 1 stroke and now has the 3 lowest single rounds and 4 of the 6 best 36 hole totals.

CSC’s 4 other golfers in the team competition, all sophomores, posted new personal 36-hole bests.

Brooke Kramer shot a 156 to best her own low score by 5 as she tied for 11th with only 1 hole more than one-over-par while Kinsey Smith tied for 21st at 159, a 2 stroke improvement

Allison Acosta also set a personal best by 2 strokes at 161 to tie for 24th. Finally, sophomore Kenzey Kanno set a new personal best by one stroke, finishing at 164 for 34th place.

Junior Jordan Grasis, playing as an individual, tied for 19th with a 158 and missed her PR by one stroke. Had Grasis been part of the CSC team, the Eagles would have tied Wayne State for 3rd.

Augustana’s Molly Stevens was the individual winner with a tournament record 142 after a scorching opening round 3-under par 69.

Chadron State next plays in 2 weeks at the Samuel Proal Invite, hosted by Colorado State University-Pueblo at the Pueblo Country Club.
