After having a successful indoor season, the Chadron State College track and field team will open its outdoor season this weekend.
Head Coach Riley Northrup said about 35 Eagles will enter a meet hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday and Saturday and about a dozen others will go to Black Hills State, where competition for multi-events participants is included on the schedule Saturday and Sunday.
Despite not being at full strength, the Chadron State men scored 72.5 points to place fourth in the team standings and just 1.5 points out of third place at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference’s Indoor Championships in late February.
The CSC men are already strongest in the sprints and jumps, and will add the team’s only senior, Javan Lanier, to the roster outdoors. Lanier has outdoor bests of 10.61 in the 100-meter dash and 24 feet, ¼ inches in the long jump.
