Box Score

Brandon Laxson, CSC Sports Information Assistant

The Chadron State College volleyball team fell in three sets to No. 4 MSU-Denver on Thursday night, 13-25, 17-25, 16-25.

The Eagles move to 3-8 overall, and 2-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, on the season, while the Roadrunners move to 9-1 overall (8-1 RMAC).
The Roadrunners seemingly ran away with the first set, but the Eagles held the score close toward the middle of both the second and third set before the opponents pulled away.
Although MSUD’s Rylee Hladky had nine kills on the night and Avaline Lai had six, it was the effort of four separate Roadrunners, each with five kills, that would help solidify the win for the home team.
One of the four, sophomore middle blocker Mikayla McClinton, helped lead her team with 11.5 points, including five block assists. McClinton also had half of her team’s eight service aces for the evening.
Senior setters Jessa Megenhardt and Joli Sadler each contributed 16 assists in the win.
Rhiannon Nez of CSC led her team offensively with seven kills but was supported by Breshawna Kelly who had 23 assists in the three sets.
Chadron State committed 20 attack errors in the match, nearly doubling that of their opponent who only had 11.
Defensively, the two teams received the ball evenly with CSC having 39 digs while MSUD had 40.
The disparity in defense was evident in MSUD’s 15 total blocks while CSC only managed four.
The Eagles will head to Durango, Colo. next for a weekend pod on Saturday, Mar. 20. Match one against Fort Lewis begins at 11 a.m. and match two against Colorado Christian at 2 p.m.
