The Chadron State women’s golf team sat #1 by 10 strokes yesterday after firing a 332 in the 1st round of the Fall Hardrocker Invite in Rapid City.

Senior Alpine Hickstein is 2nd by a stroke after a 4-over-par 77 in a round that included 2 birdies and the most pars in the field. CSC’s 3 other scoing players and 2 other Eagles entered as individuals all shot in the low-to-mid 80s.

CSC Head Coach John Ritzen was pleased with the day, saying “We expected our scores to be a little higher than last week due to the difficulty of the Red Rock course, but we had a few ladies play really well.”

Ritzen added that “it was nice to see Alpine have a good round after not playing her best last week. I was really happy with how our freshmen played in the individual spots.”

The tournament field includes SD Mines, Black Hills State, Montana State-Billings, and Minot State from North Dakota, and 2 teams each from Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines. The Hardrockers’ Rianna Garland was the 1st-day leader with a 76.
