After a 79-66 win by Colorado Christian (9-18, 6-15 RMAC) during Saturday night’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s basketball game, the Chadron State College women will finish with a 7-19 overall record and 6-15 conference record to close out the 2021-22 season.
The Cougars took advantage of their offensive rebounds, scoring 22 second-chance points versus the Eagles’ seven points. They also outrebounded the Eagles 50-41.
The first quarter was slow as both teams each scored only 12 points. No three-pointers were landed, and eight fouls were called between both teams.
The Cougars and Eagles turned it around in quarter two, uncorking 27 points and 20 points, respectively. The halftime score was 39-32 Colorado Christian.
In the second half the Eagles were unable to secure the lead once. The Cougars pulled away by scoring 18 points in the third quarter and 22 points in the fourth.
CSC finished 35.3% from the field (24-68), 33.3% beyond the arch (5-15), and 76.5% at the charity line (13-17).
Two 2021 seniors and four 2022 seniors were honored after the game for their loyalty and dedication to the CSC women’s basketball program.
The two 2021 seniors who got the recognition they were owed but were unable to receive during last year’s shortened season were Taryn Foxen and Rachel Henkle. This year’s seniors were Bailey Brooks, Brittni McCully, Jori Peters, and Tatum Peterson.
“I’m so thankful that these seniors went through this program,” said Head Women’s Basketball Coach Janet Raymer. “They are leaving big shoes to fill. I’m sad to see them go but excited for the future of the program that they have helped build.”
Ashayla Powers finished as the Eagles’ top scorer of 2021-22. She had 347 points in 25 games played. Behind her was Samiyah Worrell with 308 points and Jori Peters with 245 points. Powers also finished the season with 151 total rebounds.
Worrell was the team’s deep threat of the season. She recorded 53 three-pointers on 150 attempts for a percentage of 35.3%.
Peters spent the most amount of time on the court in 2021. Her 821 minutes far outpaced the rest of her team with the next closest having 659 minutes. She capped off the season with a team-high of 79 assists and 29 steals.
